We stayed in Matemo for five days in August (Winter time, although temperatures were always above 25ºC) and apart from the day before the last, where it almost rained and the wind was a bit annoying, the weather was fine (best days were definitely the 1st and the last). When there was no wind at all, the water was literally a pool!!! Still, even with a breeze, the sea was extremely safe (one could hardly speak of waves as we know them). The food was ok; at breakfast there was the normal stuff - bread, cereals, fruit, milk, fruit juices - not fresh though; at dinner there were fish & meat courses, salads, pasta; the pastries were excellent!!! I expected more fruit variety...but this is an island; anyway, the overall impression is positive! Service was excellent, although there was no room service. At night, one could take some nice walks or simply stay outside the cottage having a drink and enjoy the peace and quietness of the island and the starry sky. I don't remember having to worry with insects.

I simply loved Matemo!!! The water, the sand, the accomodation - everything was great!! I stayed there in Aug 2005. First the 1/2 hour trip from Pemba to Matemo: amazing! I had never flown in a bi-motor before and to be able to look down and see the landscape, the water, the fishboats clearly was an unforgetable experience. As one approaches land, one immediately sees the chalets and the beach and that's really breathtaking: the colours of the water, the white sand, the chalets - it all looks like those fabulous pictures you see in the magazines! The accomodation falls nothing short of what you see on the website: wooden floors (also in the bathroom); a tub with a view; comfortable beds; Outside there's a small porch with a couple of chairs; there is also a couple of beach "beds" in front of every chalet. To watch the sunset and the stars at night was also a unique experience! I just wish Matemo continues to offer that very same quality and that everyone enjoys Matemo at least as much as I did.
